About Tap Detectors
Tap Depot was founded by John A. Moschella in
New York City and distributes to individuals and security professionals
Worldwide. After extensive research, both nationwide and international,
we were able to design a product to detect a telephone tap and
disrupt the tapping device simultaneously. Our research identified
various products comparably priced which would detect a telephone
tap but not disrupt the monitoring station. Our study disclosed
that these devices were only able to detect a tap within close
proximity of the telephone instrument but yet failed to detect
a hard wired tap at the demarcation point or a wireless tap within
the frequency range of 1 MHZ – 6 GHZ. Generally, when an intruder
places a tapping device on a telephone line, it is installed
on the outside of the structure or at a transfer point between
the central office. Based on our testing, comparable products
were not effective in detecting the tap. Also, all the tap detectors we tested were unable to emit a load tone on the telephone line or withstand line voltage in excess or 41 volts. In addition, most devices tested were not compatible with PBX, FAX, DSL or T 1 lines. Based on our research, testing and experience, the “INTERCEPTOR” was created.
